Kontoro is a private library for things you read. Keep your account secure, only upload files you have the right to hold, and do not attack the service. In return: we will not sell you out, will not hold your data hostage, and will tell you plainly what is built and what is not.

Your account

You need an account to use Kontoro, you are responsible for what happens under it, and you should tell us if you think someone else has got into it. One account is meant for one person. You must be old enough to enter a contract where you live, and at least 13.

What you upload

The locker is for your own copies of things you have the right to hold — a book you bought, a paper you are entitled to, a document you wrote. Uploading material you have no right to is not permitted, and neither is using Kontoro to distribute anything to anyone else.This is not a preference we could be talked out of. Your files are private to your account by design: never shared between readers, never redistributed, never made public. That is the whole basis on which hosting them is defensible, and it is enforced in the database rather than left to good intentions.You keep every right you already had in what you upload and in what you write. Kontoro claims no ownership of your files, your highlights or your notes. The permission you give is the narrow one needed to run the service: to store your files and show them back to you, and to show a single passage to someone holding a link you deliberately created.

What you may not do

Upload anything you have no right to hold, or use Kontoro to distribute copyrighted material. Try to reach another reader’s library, files or marks. Attack, overload or probe the service, or work around its limits. Scrape it, or resell access to it. Upload malware, or anything unlawful.

Paying, if you ever do

There is a free plan with real limits, and a paid plan for when your shelf outgrows them. Paid plans are billed monthly in advance and you can cancel at any time; cancelling stops the next charge and leaves you on the free plan at the end of the period you have paid for. Nothing you have already put in is deleted when you downgrade — you may simply not be able to add more until you are back under the limit.Where a plan names something that is still being built, the card says so in plain sight rather than in a footnote. If Kontoro ever charges for something and then fails to ship it, ask for your money back and you will get it.

Getting your things out

You can download any file you uploaded, at any time, on any plan, and what you get back is the file you put in — not a rendering, not a conversion. This is never gated on a plan, a limit or a delay. If we cannot honour that, we have no business charging for the rest.

Ending it

You can stop using Kontoro whenever you like and delete your account and everything in it yourself, from your account page. If you would rather ask, email hello@kontoro.io and it will be done. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, in particular one being used to distribute material it has no right to; where the circumstances allow it we will say what happened and give you the chance to get your files first.

What this is, and what it is not

Kontoro is early software and parts of it are openly unfinished. We will keep saying which parts. It is provided as it is, without a warranty that it will be uninterrupted or error-free, and we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses.What we will not hide behind: your files are the one thing treated as irreplaceable here. Keep your own copies anyway — that is ordinary prudence with any service, including this one.

Changes

If these terms change materially, we will email you before the change takes effect. Carrying on using Kontoro afterwards means you accept the new version.
